Update on School Trips in the UK

The UK government has issued updated guidance for coach operators who are undertaking work for schools, with regard to daily testing for close contacts.

With immediate affect, the new guidance states that daily testing of close contacts applies to all contacts who are fully vaccinated adults (2 doses), all children 5 years to 18 years and 6 months, regardless of vaccination status, people who are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons or who are taking part in an approved clinical trial.

What does this mean?

Any children aged 5+, along with any adults, travelling on dedicated transport, either to get to or from school, or on a school trip must:

  • Wear face coverings

  • Practice hand washing and sanatising

  • Let fresh air into vehicles by opening windows or with air ventillation systems

  • Take daily Lateral Flow Tests

On school trips, particularly overnight trips, we recommend all members of the group take daily tests for three days prior to the trip, then continue to take tests on each day of the trip, and again for 7 days after the trip, following all relevant advice should any member test positive for Covid 19.
